Kepemimpinan K.H. Abdullah Abbas dan Transformasi Pondok Buntet Pesantren Cirebon

This article examines the leadership of K.H. Abdullah Abbas in developing Pondok Buntet Pesantren Cirebon as an Islamic educational institution responsive to the challenges of the times. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and document analysis, this study focuses on three main aspects: the leadership profile of K.H. Abdullah Abbas, the transformation of the educational system under his leadership, and the role of the pesantren as an institution for education, dakwah, and social welfare. The findings show that K.H. Abdullah Abbas applied a democratic and progressive leadership style, successfully integrating traditional pesantren values with modern educational reforms. He improved the quality of education through the establishment of formal institutions such as madrasah, a nursing academy, and language and computer institutions, without neglecting the traditional study of classical Islamic texts. This article emphasizes the importance of visionary leadership in transforming the pesantren into an adaptive and relevant cultural institution amid the dynamics of contemporary society.
